Shannon Purser is an American actress. She made her acting debut in the Netflix original series Stranger Things portraying the character Barbara "Barb" Holland[2] and is set to portray Ethel Muggs in Riverdale.[3] She is set to make her film debut in the upcoming 2018 film Life of the Party.[4]

Career

Purser made her acting debut in the Netflix original series Stranger Things. She portrayed the character Barb Holland, an intelligent and outspoken girl, who is the best friend of Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer). Despite her only being a minor character, several outlets called Barb one of their favorite characters.[1][5] This role brought Purser to international fame.[6] On August 30, 2016, it was announced that Purser would portray Ethel Muggs in the upcoming television series Riverdale.[7] On September 7, 2016, it was announced that Purser would have a minor role in the 2018 film Life of the Party.[8]

Personal life

Purser is currently attending Kennesaw State University. Purser formerly worked at a movie theatre[9][10] but quit in order to focus on acting. She expressed interest in playing the Marvel Comics character Squirrel Girl.[11]
