Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore

Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore (Chinese: 新加坡香格里拉大酒店) is a five-star deluxe hotel located on Orange Grove Road, Orchard Road, Singapore.[1]

Opened on 23 April 1971, the hotel is the flagship and the first hotel of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.[2] The hotel has 747 guestrooms and suites spread over the Tower Wing, Garden Wing and Valley Wing,[3] 127 serviced apartments and 55 luxurious condominium units. The hotel boasts 15 acres of landscaped gardens which are visible through the glass walls enclosing the lobby and dining areas, and has been referred to as "Singapore's other botanical garden".[4] It has also won numerous awards, including TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice 2012: Top 25 Hotels in Singapore.[5]

The hotel is the annual host of a meeting of defense ministers, permanent heads of ministries and military chiefs of 28 Asia-Pacific states since 2002 that has become known as the Shangri-La Dialogue.[6] On 7 November 2015, the hotel served as the venue of a historic meeting between the People's Republic of China's paramount leader Xi Jinping and the Republic of China's President Ma Ying-jeou, the first meeting between a Mainland China's and Taiwan's leader since the 1949 Chinese Communist Revolution.[7]

The Garden Wing, which opened in 1978, is positioned as a tropical retreat in the city. It had deluxe rooms, corner premier rooms, and one- and two-bedroom suites. Besides these resort-styled rooms, there were 15 acres (6.1 ha) of tropical landscaping within the wing which was home to more than 110 varieties of plants, flowers and trees, and which included a cascading waterfall and a koi pond. The Garden Wing also had a restaurant called the Waterfall Café, where guests could dine by the hotel's swimming pool.

In 2011, the Garden Wing closed for renovation and reopened on 31 May 2012[8] after eight months of renovation which cost S$66 million. While the 15 acres of tropical landscaping remain, the room choices at the Garden Wing now include deluxe rooms, one-bedroom suites and premier balcony suites. In addition to the room changes, new dining and wellness options have also been introduced. The Waterfall, a Mediterranean-inspired dining concept revolving around healthy cuisines, opened on 19 July 2012. CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La, which is a signature spa service by the Shangri-La Hotel and Resorts Group opened on 7 December 2012.

Valley Wing

Opened in 1985, Valley Wing is the exclusive wing of the hotel and caters to the high-end luxury travellers. Rooms available at the Valley Wing are the Deluxe rooms, 1-Bedroom Suites, Deluxe Suites, 2-Bedroom Suites and the Shangri-La Presidential Suite.

Valley Wing also has its own private entrance and driveway, reception area, function room – the State Room – and private breakfast dining room – the Summit Room – for guests staying at the wing.
