Shambu Tamang

Shambu (Shambhu) Tamang (Nepali: शम्भू तामाङ) (born circa 1955) from Nepal once held the record as the youngest person to successfully ascend Mount Everest, reaching the summit on May 5, 1973. Records differ on his actual age at the time of the successful climb; although most records claim he was 16 years of age, it is currently believed he was actually 18 years old. Tamang's record was surpassed in May 2001 by Temba Tsheri.[1]

Tamang, who has since repeated his ascent of the summit, now owns a trekking company in Kathmandu.[2]
