The Seaweed pipefishes, Syngnathus, is a genus of pipefishes in the family Syngnathidae. They inhabit marine, brackish, and sometimes fresh waters.

Fossil record

Fossils of Syngnathus are found from the Oligocene to the Pleistocene (age range: from 33.9 to 2.5 million years ago.). They are known from various localities of Greece, Italy, Germany and United States. [2]
