Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh

Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh is an Irish-teaching national school in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. The school houses around 150-165 pupils, and seven teachers, and its site comprises nine classrooms, two offices, a hall, a library, and three playgrounds.

History

Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh was founded in 1989 by Carmel Farrell. It started off in just one house with nine pupils(It now has around 165 pupils), it expanded to Society St with two playgrounds, an office and around 4 classrooms. It moved to its current newly built premises in 2005.

Prizes

The school has won an abundance of prizes throughout the years including areas such as Gaelic Football, Hurling, Quizzes(The Credit Quiz, Conradh na Gaeilge and The Garda Siochana Quiz), recently, the school won its first Green Schools Award, an award for a clean school.

Location

Scoil Uí Cheithearnaigh is located near to two other secondary schools: Garbally College (boys secondary school), and Ard Scoil Mhuire (girls secondary school). SUC is close to Portiuncla Hospital and St Josephs Place, Ballinasloe.
