Science Advances is a peer-reviewed multidisciplinary open-access scientific journal established in early 2015. As the first open-access journal published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science,[1] announced in February 2014,[2] Science Advances aims to publish significant, innovative original research that advances the frontiers of science and extends the standards of excellence established by Science.

As a multidisciplinary research journal, Science Advances will publish in a broad array of fields including computer, engineering, environmental, life, mathematical, physical, and social sciences. As an open access journal, the journal will quickly allow new science with potential global impact to be rapidly distributed, discussed, and built upon, despite that it has been sometimes criticized for charging authors an additional fee to allow the commercial re-use of their publications (i.e. publication under CC-BY rather than another, CC BY-NC).[3]
