Sarah Hurwitz is an American speechwriter. She has been the head speechwriter for Michelle Obama since 2008.[1][2]

Hurwitz is from Wayland, Massachusetts. She attended Harvard University and Harvard Law School, and began her career as a speechwriter for Al Gore. She was a speechwriter for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign and Deputy Chief Speechwriter for the Presidential campaigns of Senator John Kerry and General Wesley Clark.[3]

Hurwitz wrote Hillary Clinton's 2008 concession speech, which included Clinton's remarks about “18 million cracks” in the “highest, hardest glass ceiling.” She was offered a job as a member of Obama's presidential campaign team two days after Clinton delivered the speech. Her first assignment for Michelle Obama was at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.[2]
