Sankar Chakraborty

Shankar Chakravorti (alternate spelling: Shankar Chakraborty), M.Com.(CU) LLB(CU), is a politician and an advocate from Balurghat (West Bengal). He was the Minister in Charge of P.W.D., Dept. of Cooperation, Dept. of Renewable Energy, Dept. of Correctional Administration in the Council of Ministers of the Government of West Bengal in various phases.[1][2] He was an MLA, elected from the Balurghat constituency in the West Bengal state assembly election, 2011. He narrowly lost the same seat in 2016.

He is now the Chairman of the Board of Directors of three state run PSUs namely Mackintosh Burn Ltd., Westinghouse Saxby Farmer Ltd. and Britannia Engineering Ltd.

He achieved the uncommon distinction of being honoured by the Govt of West Bengal with the exact rank and pay of a full cabinet minister without being an MLA.

He is also the President of Dakshin Dinajpur district committee of Trinamool Congress.

Shankar Chakravorti, son of Byomkesh Chakravorti, was born in 1945. He holds a post graduate degree in commerce and a degree in law from the University of Calcutta.

He is considered to be among the best advocates in North Bengal.[3]
