Sangen-Jaya Station (三軒茶屋駅 Sangenjaya-eki) is a railway station in Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan. It is located at the merging of two highways, Route 246 and Setagaya-dori, just outside the central area of Shibuya. Historically, people coming into Tokyo from the countryside would stop in Sangenjaya for a rest before entering the heart of the city. This is where the area got its name, since Sangenjaya means "three tea houses".
History
- March 6, 1907: Tamagawa Line opens, and the station opens.
- January 18, 1925: Setagaya Line opens.
- May 10, 1969: Tamagawa Line closes.
- April 7, 1977: Shin-Tamagawa Line (present Den-en-Toshi Line) opens
