"Same Old Song" is a song recorded by American country rock artist Brantley Gilbert. It was released in April 2015 as a promotional single from his third studio album Just as I Am, although it received very little press. The song was only included in the deluxe version of the album.

Content

The song a mid-tempo song with hard rock and heavy metal influences. It is a protest song that criticizes complaints towards common tropes of the bro-country subgenre and saying that they are authentic to the lifestyle of the singers.

Critical reception

The song received negative reviews from critics. Website Saving Country Music wrote "Whether “Same Old Song” ever makes its way to radio remains to be seen, but Brantley’s attempt to rally support around a quickly depreciating trend may turn out to be fool’s errand."^[1] Another negative review came from For The Country Record, who said "But the end of ‘Same Old Song’ reminds us just how false this whole affair is. “All that small talk goin’ round, that ain’t all we’re all about,” Brantley sings, with as much conviction as someone who’s sitting on a pile of money can have. Hidden deep within a song that claims the bro-country lifestyle is the only thing he knows, on an album that offers plenty of other narratives proving the opposite, he argues that there’s more to them than bro-country storylines. Confused yet?"^[2]

The song peaked at number 37 on the Country Digital Songs chart for the week of May 16, 2015.^[3]
