Sam Hyde (born April 16, 1985) is an American comedian, prankster, writer, and actor known for his culturally critical, anti-comedic and occasionally shocking style of humor.[1][2] Hyde is the co-creator of the sketch comedy group Million Dollar Extreme along with Charls Carroll and Nick Rochefort.[3] Their television series, Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace, premiered on Adult Swim in August 2016.[3]

Biography

Sam Hyde was born on April 16, 1985 in Fall River, Massachusetts. He attended B.M.C. Durfee High School. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University. After one year at Carnegie Mellon, he transferred to the Rhode Island School of Design[4] where he graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Film, Animation and Video.

Hyde created Million Dollar Extreme (MDE) in 2006 as his senior project at the Rhode Island School of Design. He stated MDE's mission was to "challenge cultural norms, ask big questions, tackle stale paradigms and enstill [sic] an inquisitive spirit into the minds of the 21st century generation."

Hoaxes

In 2013, Hyde delivered a rambling prank TEDx talk titled "2070 Paradigm Shift" at Drexel University that received significant media attention.[3] When asked about the intent of the prank, Hyde expressed his dislike for TED talks, calling them “really self-congratulatory.”[5]

Hyde has been incorrectly reported as the perpetrator of numerous mass shootings and terrorist attacks by internet trolls.[6] The first instance of this hoax was the Umpqua Community College shooting.[7] Hyde has also been blamed for the 2015 San Bernardino attack, the 2016 UCLA shooting,[6] the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting,[8] the shooting of Alton Sterling,[9] and for the suspicious death of a black man in Piedmont Park.[10] Most of the hoaxes state that Hyde is a white supremacist, and complain that "he can't keep getting away with it."[6]
