St. Petersburg State Institute of Psychology and Social Work (SPbGIPSR, Russian: Санкт-Петербургский государственный институт психологии и социальной работы, СПбГИПСР) is the only Russian state higher education institution of psychologically oriented social profile in the Northwestern Federal District.

Academic structure

As of December 2014, the Institute consists of Faculty of Psychological and Social Work (since 1995) and Faculty of Applied Psychology (since 1999) with total of eight departments:

Academic structure also comprises the specialized Training and Laboratory Complex (TLC) designed to facilitate the practice-oriented approach in student's training. TLC consists of 6 laboratories and 4 classes:

Education

Since 2011 the Institute has adopted qualifications framework and three-cycle system of education (e.g., bachelor, master, doctorate), developed under the Bologna process. Currently there are nine degree programmes:

Bachelor programmes

  • "Psychology"
  • "Social Work"
  • "Conflictology"

Master programmes

  • "Counseling Psychology"
  • "Psychology of Personality"
  • "Health and Developmental Psychology"
  • "Family in the System of Social Service"
  • "Social Project Management"

Post-graduate programme

  • "Social Psychology"

The language of instruction is Russian. Completion of each programme will result in Bachelor or Master qualification in "Psychology" or "Social Work".

Research

Institute research activities cover such issues as theory and practice of social work, applied social psychology, health psychology, pedagogic anthropology, gender and family studies, psychological counseling and methods of providing support to problematic groups.

The basis for research activities is the Research and Development Center, which was established to provide organizational and financial support to projects carried out by faculty and researchers, as well as to coordinate research activities of faculty departments and other subdivisions. The Center consists of publishing office, scientific department and department of student research work.

Institute operates under the university charter[1] and internal regulations. It has license[2] and state accreditation.[3]
