S. S. Agarwal (born 1953) is the current national president of the Indian Medical Association.[1][2]

Early life and education

He was born in November 1953 to Lt. Shri Kalyan Prasad Sootwale and Smt. Reshmi devi Agarwal in Jaipur in Rajasthan.

Agarwal studied medicine and did post-graduate work at SMS Medical College in Jaipur. During his MD, he was the President of Jaipur Resident Doctors Association and Rajasthan Resident Doctors Association. In 1982, he established Swasthya Kalyan Hospital.

Agarwal started the first private ambulance of the state in 1988 and went on to establish the first private sector blood bank of Rajasthan in 1995. This resulted in sharp growth of private practice in the state. Agarwal started the first Nuclear Imaging Centre of the state in 1997 which revolutionized the oncology field in the state while paving way for massive advancements in diagnostic medicine. For his inspiring work, he was awarded by the Hon'ble Governor of Rajasthan on 26th January 2001.

Contributions to medical education

Agarwal is considered a pioneer in the field of health & education. He consults the state government on various new & existing projects and policies of the field. He has also held the position of President in Medical Practitioners Society and Private Hospitals & Nursing Homes Society Rajasthan, the post of Chairman in All Rajasthan Private Doctors Federation, & various respectable posts in API & NMO. He is the Member of Board in various universities and member of various government councils.

Political career

Agarwal has been a medical activist since his residency years when he was the president of Rajasthan Association of Resident Doctors. He has been on the forefront of creating a strong inter & intra-organizational support system for the medicos across the country. After years of being the Honorary. State Secretary of Indian Medical Association (Rajasthan Branch), in 2008 he was elected the National Vice President of Indian Medical Association (HQs). In 2014, he was unanimously elected as the National President of Indian Medical Association. He currently holds the office of National President from December 2015

He was National Convener of BJP Doctor Cells and organized Health vision 2014 at Serifort Auditorium, New Delhi. Organizing Secretary IMACON 2010 at Jaipur and was also organizing Secretary of many State, National and International conferences.
