Ruth Munson was a Republican member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 43rd district from 2002 until 2009. The district includes portions of Elgin, Carpentersville, East Dundee and South Elgin.

She served on the following committees: Committee on Whole, Computer Technology, Appropriations-Human Services, Elementary and Secondary Education, Insurance, Bio Technology, Tollway Oversight, International Trade & Commerce and Pension Funds Management.

Munson was also the founder of a small software development firm. Her legislative priorities included combating identity theft, job creation, improving access to healthcare, reducing gang violence and improving education.

Rep. Munson received a BA in Political Science from Northern Illinois University in 1981. She was elected to the Elgin City Council in 1999. There, Rep. Munson served on the Economic Development Council and Technology Action Team. During her tenure as councilwoman, Elgin revitalized its Center City, expanded its recreational facilities, lowered crime and gang-related activity, and increased economic development.
