Ruffle Bar

Map of Ruffle Bar

Ruffle Bar is the name of a small island located in Jamaica Bay in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City. The island is part of the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, and lies just east of Floyd Bennett Field.

It was once the place of a successful clam and oyster industry, but closed down when the water was deemed by the New York City Department of Health to be too polluted for the breeding of shellfish.[1] The island is now uninhabited and has been designated as a bird sanctuary.
