The diocese of Bùi Chu (Latin: Dioecesis Buichuensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese of Vietnam. Joseph Hoàng Văn Tiem, S.D.B., was the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bùi Chu from his 2001 appointment by Pope John Paul II until his death in August 2013. On Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Vu Dinh Hieu, of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Xuân Lôc (a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Saigon, or Ho Chi Minh City), Titular Bishop of Baanna, as the Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Bùi Chu. He succeeded Bishop Van Tiem who died.[1]

The creation of the Diocese in present form was declared November 24, 1960.

The Diocese covers an area of 1,350 km², and is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Hanoi.

By 2004, the Diocese of Bùi Chu had about 380,130 believers (28.4% of the population), 58 priests and 129 parishes.[2]

Queen of the Rosary Cathedral in Xuân Ngọc Commune (Xuân Trường District, Nam Định Province) has been assigned as the see (the location of the cathedral and its Bishop's chair, and thus the headquarters) of the diocese.[3] There are 12 Shrines in the diocese. The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Phú Nhai is one of them.

The diocese is divided into 13 deaneries: Báo Đáp, Bùi Chu, Đại Đồng, Kiên Chính, Lạc Đạo, Liễu Đề, Ninh Cường, Phú Nhai, Quần Phương, Quỹ Nhất, Thức Hóa, Tứ Trùng, and Tương Nam.

There is a traditional charity centre called Nhà Dục Anh (Orphanage House) in the northwest side of the Bùi Chu Cathedral.[4]
