Road Pig is a fictional character from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline, comic books and cartoon series. He is affiliated with Cobra as one of the Dreadnoks and debuted in 1988.

Profile

Road Pig's real name is Donald DeLuca, and he was born in Goblu, Michigan.

Road Pig was declared by his doctor to be the ugliest-looking baby he had ever seen. As a child, he was expelled from kindergarten for milk-money extortion, and was dishonorably discharged from the Cub Scouts. After being kicked out of a low-life outlaw gang for smelling worse than acceptable even by their standards, he joined the Dreadnoks as a probationary member. There he developed a split personality, as well as an infatuation of Zarana, who seemed to dislike the educated and refined persona of Donald, and prefer the more criminal and subversive persona of Road Pig.^[1]

Road Pig's arrest record includes charges of speeding, reckless endangerment, littering, assault, grand-theft-auto, usury, felony spitting, petty bribery, and passing stopped school buses at high speeds.

Toys

Road Pig was first released as an action figure in 1988. The figure was repainted and released as part of the Super Sonic Fighters line in 1991.^[2]

Comics

Marvel Comics

In the Marvel Comics G.I. Joe series, he first appeared in issue #83. In it, he sees a news report saying Zarana and Zanzibar have been arrested. Single handedly, Road Pig assaults the police station they are at and rescues them.^[3]

Road Pig is one of the operatives sent to watch over the new Cobra town of Broca Beach. Road Pig is seen assaulting Buzzer when the latter man becomes obnoxious. Clutch and Rock 'n Roll are found in the town, brainwashed, escaped, captured again by Road Pig and ultimately released into Joe custody. This is all part of a plot to have the two Joes go mad with rage in Joe HQ, which fails.^[4]

It is revealed Road Pig and Zarana spent months as Firefly's prisoners on Cobra Island, only to be released after an accidental encounter with the Cobra ninjas Slice and Dice.^[5]

Road Pig is on hand to assist Zarana when Cobra forces attempt to kill Destro in his Trans-Carpathian castle.^[6]

Devil's Due

Road Pig appears in the Devil's Due G.I. Joe comics as part of the expanded Dreadnoks network. He and Zandar capture the Joes Snake Eyes and Scarlett during a fight in the Florida Everglades.^[7] Road Pig is one of the Dreadnoks supervising the purchase of a nuclear weapon from Russian forces with Buzzer, Ripper and Thrasher.^[8] He is part of the Dreadnok force that fights for Cobra Commander on Cobra Island during the second Cobra civil war.^[9]

Road Pig has a brief cameo supervising the transfer of power over the Dreadnok's Montreal base.^[10] When Duke and General Rey confront the Dreadnoks for information Zandar might know, Road Pig and the others are called off from fighting the two by Zartan.^[11]

Cartoon

DiC

Road Pig appeared in the DiC G.I. Joe cartoon series. As the 80s Sunbow/Marvel cartoon had ceased production before the first version of the figure was released, his 1988 outfit was only ever animated for commercials.

Renegades

Road Pig first appears in the G.I. Joe: Renegades episode "Dreadnoks Rising" as a member of the Dreadnoks.

Video games

Road Pig appeared as a boss in the 1991 G.I. Joe video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. He reappeared (still in his 1988 outfit) in the sequel G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor, but with a different stance as a mini-boss.
