Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa is a Bahraini royal and interior minister of Bahrain.

Early life

Khalifa is a member of Bahrain's ruling family, Al Khalifa.[1] His father is Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.[2]

Career

Khalifa served as chief of staff of the Bahrain's defense force with the rank of major general from October 2001 to May 2004.[3][4] He was appointed by King Hamad as interior minister in May 2004.[5] Khalifa replaced Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Hamad Al Khalifa in the post.[4][6] His predecessor who had been in office since 1974 was dismissed following the clashes between Shia protestors and security forces in Manama.[7] Rashid Al Khalifa was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general following his appointment as interior minister.[2]
