It is located on the Southern Pacific Railroad 4.25 miles (6.8 km) north-northwest of Randsburg,^[2] at an elevation of 2690 feet (820 m) in the Mojave Desert.^[1]

Rand was part of the Randsburg and Johannesburg, California mining operations.
