Rajeev Jha (Chandrashkekhar Madheshi alternately Rajiv Jha, Rajib Jha) (Nepali: राजीव झा; born Gangesh Jha on 30 September 1976) is a Nepalese politician and General Secretary of Nepal Sadbhavana Party. He fought for the right of the Madhesi people of the Terai-Madhesh region of Nepal, both as a civilian and as a militant.[1]

In 2008, Rajeev Jha joined armed group JTMM and led the intellectual wing of the party. In 2009 he split with Jwal Singh and setup his own party Madhesh Rashtriya Jantantrik Party (MRJP).[2]

Personal life and early career

Rajeev Jha was born in Dhuhabi-6, a village in Dhanusa District, some 15 kilometres east of Nepal’s zone Janakpur. Rajeev Jha spent much of his childhood and youth in Janakpur. He received Intermediate of Science (I.Sc) from R.R.Multiple Campus in Janakpur, and was once successful entrepreneurs having detergent and soap factory. Witnessing severe poverty and discrimination among Madhesi since his youth, Rajeev Jha was drawn to leftist political parties. In 2005 he was appointed as the president of Grass Root Nepal,[3] an NGO working for the welfare of the Madhesi and Nepalese people in general. In 2005, he became the president of ‘Terai Sangrakchan Samiti(तराई संरक्षण समिति)’.[4] During Madhesh Revolution in 2008 TSS played a vital role and helped injured people by providing for shelter, food and treatment expenses to the people injured in the revolution.

Public appearance

In August 2012, Jha announced a turn away from violence, and began peace discussions with the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction (Nepal).[5] On September-2012, Jha announced that his MRJP was uniting with the Sadbhavana Party. In a late 2012 interview, Jha stated he is fighting Election from home constituency of Dhanusha-2 (Dhanusa District) from a Sadbhavana Party. In 2012, he stated, “This does not mean I am giving up. We are changing our method, but will not rest till there is a Madhesh state.”[5]

In 2013, Jha participated in Nepalese Constituent Assembly election, 2013, he stood as the Nepal Sadbhavana Party candidate in the constituency Dhanusa-2(Dhanusa District). He came seventh position according to the vote share of constituency [6]

In 2015 When both Sadbhavana Party Nepal Sadbhavana Party and Sanghiya Sadbhawna Party were merge to form Unified Nepal Sadbhavana Party[7] and in that press conference he said "Time has come when we must demonstrate in our millions not against this or that, but rather for who we are"[8]

Rajeev Jha is an active social worker since he student life,[4] helping needed is passion for him. In 2014 after losing election he opened a Community based Hospital for poor in his constitution.[9] His organization regularly arrange health checkup camps for the poor and needy, in his constituency Dhanusha -2.[10][11][12] Dhanusha is prone to diseases and illiteracy and negligence by the civic authorities, especially after the monsoons and during it.[13][14]
