Rahul Vishwakarma (Nepali: राहुल विश्वकर्मा) (born 19 October 1992) is a Nepalese cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm orthodox spinner.[1] He made his debut for Nepal against Malaysia in October 2007.[2]

He represents the Sagarmatha Legends of the Nepal Premier League, Nepal Army Club of the National League and Pentagon International College, which plays in the SPA Cup.

Playing career

Vishwakarma first appeared on the national cricket scene after being selected for the 2007 ACC Under-19 Elite Cup. His impressive performances in that tournament made it easier for the selectors to place him in the senior squad that same year. The spinner debuted against Malaysia in the 2007 ACC Twenty20 Cup and got three wickets in his very first match[2] reassuring the selectors’ faith in him.

Vishwakarma participated in the 2010 Division Five, which Nepal hosted. After losing to the United States of America in the group stage, Nepal once again took on the Americans in the final. Bowling brilliantly, left armed spinner Vishwakarma played the best game of his young cricketing career and sent seven American batters back to the pavilion, ensuring not only a resounding victory but also the title of the 2010 Division Five champions for Nepal.[3]

Since his selection in the senior team, Vishwakarma has continuously performed well for Nepal when given the opportunity and has not stopped proving himself and his game. However, it appears that despite his rich talent, Vishwakarma isn't a regular in the playing eleven. With the likes of Basanta Regmi and Shakti Gauchan, two of the most popular and successful stars of the squad, being left arm spinners and consistently performing well, Vishwakarma has had to struggle to find a spot in the final eleven.

Despite being picked for the final 14 that represented Nepal in the 2013 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, Vishwakarma did not get to play a single game in the tournament, and he was not even included in the team that went to New Zealand for the 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier and in the team that went to Bangladesh for 2014 ICC World Twenty20. In his last two games for Nepal during the 2013 Division Three tournament held in Bermuda, Vishwakarma took a total of five wickets.

The seven wickets performance against USA[3] in the 2010 Division Five, five wickets against Tanzania[4] in the 2010 Division Four, three against Italy[5] and two against Uganda[6] in the final of the 2013 Division Three, and three wickets against Oman[7] during the 2010 ACC Trophy Elite have been some of the most memorable performances of the young spinner.
