Rafael Freire Luz (born February 11, 1992), more commonly known as Rafa Luz, is a Brazilian-Spanish professional basketball player. He is a point guard, and currently plays for Saski Baskonia.

Biography

Rafael Luz, brother of several international players for the Brazilian women's team, was called up by the under-18 team with only 15 years old.

On 26 June 2009, after spending two seasons with Unicaja's farm team Clínicas Rincón Axarquía, Luz got the Spanish passport and in October of the same year.[1]

Highlighting at the start of the 2010–11 ACB season with Unicaja, his role and finished the season playing again with Clínicas Rincón. In March 2011, he was loaned to CB Granada, until the end of the season. There, he performed of 4.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

In August 2011, Unicaja loaned him to CB Lucentum Alicante. Luz signed 5.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game at the 2011–12 ACB season.

In August 2012, Luz ended his contract with Unicaja and signed a new contract with Blu:sens Monbús Obradoiro.[2] He played with the Galician team until 2015, when he left Spain for coming back to Brazil after signing a new one-year deal with Flamengo.

In July 2016, Luz signed a two-year deal with Baskonia.[3]

Brazilian national team

Rafa Luz was part of the team that achieved the silver medal of the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship, played in Mar del Plata, Argentina, which ranked Brazil for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Great-Britain.

In 2013, Luz was called up again for the preliminary roster for the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship.
