Quisqueyano

Quisqueyano or Quisqueyan is a person of Dominican or Haitian descent. It is supposedly derived from the Taino name for the island of Hispaniola, Quisqueya.[1]

In the Dominican Republic National Anthem the term 'Dominican' never appears. The author of its lyrics Emilio Prud’Homme consistently uses the poetic term Quisqueyano. The term 'Dominican' is from Spanish descent, so in a patriotic song like the National Anthem, the indigenous term should be used.
