Presidio Graduate School is based in San Francisco, California, offering graduate level programs in sustainable management. The school was founded in 2003 with an MBA class of 22 students and has since grown to include over 750 students and graduates.[1] The school now also offers an MPA and certificate programs, through its Center for Professional Development: PresidioPRO

Presidio Graduate School is one of the first graduate institutions to focus on sustainable management. Previously known as Presidio World College and Presidio School of Management, Presidio Graduate School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.[2]

The Presidio Graduate School hybrid programs combine the effectiveness of face-to-face learning with the flexibility of interactive distance-learning opportunities. Each semester, concentrated classroom instruction takes place over a four-day “residency” (two days for part-time students) at the San Francisco campus. These residencies occur Thursday through Sunday, once a month for five months. Students continue the rest of their studies via an online learning platform.

Through innovative MBA, MPA, Dual Degree and Executive Certificate programs in Sustainable Management, Presidio activates students and professionals across a range of disciplines, industries and sectors to bridge the gap between commerce and the common good.[3]

Degree Programs

MBA

The Presidio Graduate School Masters of Business Administration degree is a 60-credit program with 15 required courses and one elective. The MBA curriculum is centered on three fundamental concepts that the school believes defines competency in sustainable management.

MPA

The Presidio Graduate School Masters of Public Administration degree is a 60-credit program with 15 required courses and one elective. The MPA curriculum is centered on three fundamental concepts that the school believes defines competency in sustainable management.

Dual

Presidio Graduate School offers students the ability to earn a dual master’s degree in sustainable management in both business and public administration. The program curriculum includes 23 required courses with one elective and requires 3 years of full-time study to complete. Students who complete the Dual Degree program are awarded both the MBA and MPA degrees in Sustainable Management.

PresidioPRO: Center for Professional Development

In 2012, Presidio Graduate School began its Center for Professional Development, PresidioPRO. Through a diverse portfolio of course offerings including the original Executive Certificate program to 1-2 day Intensive Courses and keynote lecture style Master Classes, PresidioPRO is formatted for working professionals.

Experiential Learning

In each of the required Experiential Learning courses (four MBA,three MPA), student teams partner with external organizations to create a custom-made project based on the unique needs of their partner. Past partners have included REI, eBay, Guayakí, and SustainableIndustries.

Students, graduates, and faculty

Presidio Graduate School has approximately 150 full-time and part-time students from across the United States and the World, 56% of whom are women (citation needed). The school also currently maintains a 6/1 student to faculty ratio.

Many students work full-time while pursuing their degree in addition to participating in the many students clubs. All Presidio Graduate School MBA students are automatically members of the school’s Net Impact club, which holds gold chapter status.

Presidio Graduate School graduates are working with companies and organizations in a variety of industries, municipalities, and NGOs, helping lead their efforts to be more socially and environmentally responsible. Employers include: Accenture, ClimateCHECK, the cities of Berkeley and Mountain View, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Goodwill Industries, Mattel, NBC, PETA, Sundance Channel, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), and Wake Forest University. Simran Sethi, a journalist who has hosted and appeared on programs produced by the BBC, Martha Stewart, NBC, NPR, Sundance Channel’s The Green, Oprah, and PBS, is a graduate of Presidio Graduate School. Many alumni have started entrepreneurial ventures that offer unique sustainability solutions.

Presidio Graduate School faculty includes recognized, award-winning sustainability thought leaders such as Peter Warshall, and Andrew Hoffman, as well as academics, business practitioners, and published authors who have worked for and advised Fortune 500 companies, leading NGOs, and governments from around the world.

Presidio Graduate School has been featured in news outlets including BusinessWeek, E - The Environmental Magazine, Fast Company, Forbes, GreenBiz, Marin Independent Journal, Mother Jones, Newsweek, Outside Magazine, Reuters, San Francisco Business Times, San Francisco Chronicle newspaper and magazine, San Francisco Examiner, Sierra Magazine, GreenBiz[4] and Sustainable Industries.[5]
