Prabhu Jagadbandhu was a 19th-century Hindu Vaishnav Saint of Bengal. Considered by his followers to be a re-incarnation of Chaitanya,[1] he spent much of his life meditating and preaching in the Sri Angan ashram in Faridpur, British India (present day Bangladesh). His teachings inspired the founding of the Mahanam Sampraday sect. He died in 1921 in Sri Angan. His remains have been preserved and worshipped ever since with continuous recitation of Harinam or God's name.

Life

Prabhu Jagatbandhu was born on 28 April 1871 in Dahapara, Murshidabad, Bengal Presidency, British India. His mother died when he was very young, after which his older sisters took care of him after his mother died. He was very religious and would always sing the kirtans of Krishna and Chaitanya.

Jagatbandhu belonged to the Vaishnav tradition. He stressed the importance of chanting God's name (Hari Nam)[2] as a means of remembering and drawing close to the divine. He urged followers to follow a simple life avoiding temptation.
