Potol Kumar Gaanwala (Bengali: পটল কুমার গানওয়ালা); is a hugely popular Bengali television Soap Opera that premiered on December 14, 2015 and airs on Star Jalsha. Produced by Shree Venkatesh Films, it stars Hiya Dey as main child protagonist and Saheb Chatterjee as main male protagonist.
Plot summary
Potol Kumar Gaanwala follows the journey of a young singing prodigy Potol, who sets out to find out her father. Poteshwari fondly called as Potol lives in Simultali village with her mother Subhaga, uncle Nando, aunt Rashmoni and three cousins. Potol’s father Sujon is a well known singer and lives in Kolkata and has another wife called Aditi with a daughter known as Tulika or Tuli. Sujon’s family also lives with him. Aditi, Sujon’s second wife didn’t like Sujon’s family and Aditi’s family always supports her in her misdeeds. Here in Potol’s family, Potol’s aunt didn’t like Potol and her singing and always taunts Potol’s Mother and her. Day arrives and one day Subhaga, who was suffering from disease, dies and Potol became lonely. Potol elopes from her uncle’s house and cuts her hair and dresses as a boy as her aunt couldn’t recognize her. From this Poteswari becomes Potol Kumar and after many adventures in the streets, destiny brings her to Sujon’s house. The members of the house don't know Potol’s true identity except Sujon’s elder brother, Chandan and later Chandan's wife Deepa. Aditi and Tulika hate Potol very much and always tries to make her life Hell. Because of one of their misdeeds, Potol ends up in the hospital where she meets her uncle, Nando and he tells her that Sujon is her father. After she recovers, she goes back to Sujon’s house where she hides her true identity. Because Tulika tortures Potol daily,Sujon hires a governess to take care of Tulika. But later he finds out she is named Subhaga like his former wife. When Aditi finds out the governess is called Subhaga she starts to think Sujon loves Subhaga and not her, causing Aditi to hate Subhaga as well as Potol. Meanwhile, Potol starts to call Subhaga her "Soyi Ma" as she reminds Potol of her mother and Subhaga too loves Potol very much. One day, Aditi hears from Sujon’s old yet religious mother that Sujon’s fortune says that he will have only one child. Fearing it might be Potol, Aditi starts to hate Potol even more. What will Aditi plan against Potol and Subhaga? When will Sujon find out his relationship with Potol?
