Poornaprajna

Poorna Prajna is a chain of premier educational institutions run by the Sri Admar Mutt in Udupi, Karnataka, India.

Starting off in the late 1970s with just a few primary schools, today the institution has several high schools, pre-university colleges, management schools and a research center.

History

The Founder President was H.H. Sri Vibudhesha Teertha Swamiji of Udupi Sri Admar Mutt. Now H.H. Sri Vishwapriya Teertha Swamiji has taken over as the President of Udupi Sri Admar Mutt Education Council and all the institutions are running under his guidance. The first branch was at Admar itself (Poornaprajna English Medium High School) and was established in 1950. Even their PUC (pre-university college) was opened at Admar in the same year. Now there are over 25 institutions. Their institutions are renowned for the quality of education. The main wish of H.H. Sri Vibudhesha Teertha Swamiji was that one of the students of his institutions must receive Bharat Ratna award from the Govt. of India especially for great work in Science or Mathematics.

Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research (PPISR), Bidlur and Bangalore

Founded in 1997 by HH Sri Vibhudesha Teertha Swamiji, the then Chief Pontiff of the Udupi Sri Admar Mutt, PPISR, is a member of the Poornaprajna family of educational institutions, with its main focus on research both in the fundamental as well as applied sciences. The institute's main campus is located on a lush 32-acre land, in the village of Bidlur, about 10 km beyond the Devanahalli airport, in the Greater Bangalore area. The broad areas of research at the institute are theoretical physics (condensed matter, quantum information, foundations of quantum mechanics), materials science (catalysis, polymers and photoluminescence) and biological sciences (protein crystallography and medicinal applications of endophytic fungi). It is perhaps India's only research institute to be privately funded as well as one to be founded by the head of a major religious institution. There are currently 9 research faculty members and 11 doctoral students in the institute, headed by Prof. A. B. Halgeri. The institute is overseen by the Admar Mutt Educational Council, headed by the presiding Pontiff of the Udupi Sri Admar Mutt, HH Sri Vishwapriya Teertha Swamiji.
