History

Plymouth South High School was opened in 1988, the same year the Plymouth-Carver School District was dissolved into the separate Carver and Plymouth school districts. Plymouth-Carver High School became Plymouth North High School after the district separation of Plymouth and Carver. Prior to its opening, Plymouth North High School (then known as Plymouth-Carver High School) had served as the sole high school for the towns of Plymouth and Carver. Plymouth South has been in continuous operation since its opening in 1988, and has held a slightly larger enrollment of students than Plymouth North. Plymouth South is asbestos free. Plymouth South also offers a Technical & Vocational program in the high school, which houses an additional enrollment of about 600 students at Plymouth South High School. The Voc-Tech program is open to all high school students in the town of Plymouth, including students in the Plymouth North district. (Plymouth North does not offer a technical program).

Plymouth South Technical School

Plymouth South competes at the Division 1 & 2 level of competition in athletics and is a part of the Atlantic Coast League, also more commonly called the "ACL". the Atlantic Coast League consists of schools mainly in the South Shore and Cape Cod regions of Massachusetts. The 7 schools that make up the Atlantic Coast League are Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School, Falmouth High School, Marshfield High School, Nauset Regional High School, Plymouth North High School, Plymouth South High School, and Sandwich High School. The school is known for having very powerful Hockey, Wrestling, Baseball, and Softball teams. The wrestling team is infamous for being one of the most powerful wrestling programs in not only Massachusetts, but also New England. The wrestling programs has won 11 League Championships, and has made several runs to the Division 1 State Championship since the programs inception, most recently in 2007. The program has also had one individual State Champion in its history, being Troy Perry, who won the Division 1 State Championship at 130 pounds in 1999.
