Peter Stark

Peter Stark is a British conductor.

Career

Peter Stark trained in conducting at the Royal College of Music with Norman Del Mar and in Vienna with Sir Charles Mackerras.[1] He is currently a professor of conducting at the Royal College of Music[2] and the Artistic Director of the West of England Philharmonic Orchestra and Parnassus.

During his career, he has conducted orchestras such as the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the English Chamber Orchestra, and has worked alongside Pierre Boulez, Sir Colin Davis, Lord Menuhin, Sir Roger Norrington and Klaus Tennstedt.

Stark is also very active in music education. He is the rehearsal conductor for the European Union Youth Orchestra,[3] conductor-in-residence for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain,[3] and conducts orchestras ranging from the Hertfordshire County Youth Orchestra (principal conductor since 1994) to the New South Wales Youth Orchestra of Australia and the Derbyshire City and County Youth Orchestra.

Media

In 2008 he was appointed series consultant for the BBC TV Series Maestro,[1] overseeing the tuition of the 'celebrity students' as well as consulting on repertoire.
