Payson High School is a high school located in the rural town of Payson, Arizona. It enrolls approximately 750 students.

Academics

Payson High School is proud that 4 graduates were selected as Flinn Scholars: Nikole Hale (Price), Class of 1988, Beryl Jones, Class of 2006, Mark McCarty, Class of 2008, and Jacquelyn Oesterblad, Class of 2011.

Payson graduates have attended illustrious colleges and universities across the nation, including California schools such as Stanford and the University of Southern California, Texas schools and eastern schools.


Athletics

The Payson Longhorns are known for their wrestling program with Dennis Pirch as longtime coach. R.C. LaHaye, who is now Grand Canyon University's wrestling coach, is a former three-time state champion from Payson.

Payson won the 3A State Championship in boys' track and field in 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991 and 2006. Dan Reid was the head coach from 1987-1991, with Chuck Hardt the head coach in 2006.

Payson won the 3A State championship in girls' track and field in 1999, 2000, and 2001 under coach Chuck Hardt who was also the coach for the 2001 3A State champion girls' cross-country team.

Payson also won the State Championship in football in 1977, 1981, 1998, and in 2008.

Payson won a 3A State Championship in baseball in 1999.

Payson won a 3A State Championship in Golf in 2001.

Payson High School's Modern Choir performed in Carnegie Hall in June 2007.

Many areas of practical education course are covered at Payson High School. Vocational courses include Autos, Home Economics, Business, Band, Chorus, Drama, IC3 and A+ Computer Certification.
