Early life

Murphy was born in Ireland to his parents Noel Murphy and Nora Murphy.[1] He was the fifth of eight children.[1]

Career

After his studies in University College Cork, Murphy moved to the United States. He served as a manager of O'Brien's Irish Pub and Restaurant in Santa Monica, California.[1] In 1996 he and Steve Wehmeyer joined with Steve Twigger and Uillean piper Brian Walsh to perform at that pub.
