Panj peer

Panj Peer (or Panj Pir), the Five Great Saints, mentioned in South Asian (Punjabi) literature^[1] are as follows:

Data Ganj Baksh(Al-Hajveri, of Lahore, Punjab)
Sheikh Baba Farid Shakarganj (Pakpattan, Punjab)
Baha'ud din Zakariya (Multan, Punjab)
Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (Sehwan, Sindh)
Sayyad Jalaluddin Bukhari 'Laal Shah' also known as Makhdoom Jahaaniyaan (Ucch, Punjab).

These are mentioned in the great love-epic of the Sufi poet Sayyid Waris Shah "Heer Ranjha", which opens with an invocation to these holy sages.
