Border dispute

Among the most sensitive areas of the Moldova–Ukraine relations is the crossing point at Palanca. There is a need to complete the demarcation process (including the stipulated 430 meters access to the Danube for the port and terminal in Giurgiulești), to deliver on the Republic of Moldova’s commitment to transfer to Ukraine not only the asphalt, but also the real property under 7.7 kilometers of road (which is a portion of the 300 km road between Odessa and Reni), and to clarify the sovereignty of that land, which under the Treaty of 2001, should be transferred into the property of Ukraine.[1] Land in Palanca is an inseparable part of the Moldovan territory, so it shall not be ceded to Ukraine, deputy Foreign Minister of Moldova Andrei Popov has stated.[2]
