Overseas Elite is an American basketball team that participates in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). They played in the South Region of the tournament in 2015, their inaugural year. The team is managed by Matt Morrison from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Colin Curtin is the head coach.[1] Elite won the TBT championship in 2015, defeating Team 23 in the final game.[2][3][4] They defended their title in 2016, defeating Team Colorado.

History

Overseas Elite were accepted into The Basketball Tournament's 2015 bracket as a third-seed after amassing 139 registered fans. They were placed in the South Region, which had Josh Selby and TeamBDB as the top seeds. The Elite defeated the Underdogs, 89–83, in both teams' debuts. Errick McCollum's double-double, 18 points and 11 rebounds, helped Overseas Elite get past Team Charlotte Elite in the second round, 77–74. McCollum posted 32 points in his team's next contest, against Damien Wilkins and Trained to Go, pushing Elite to the Super 17 round of the tournament. D. J. Kennedy was instrumental in Overseas Elite's first Super 17 victory, which was vs. Sean Bell All Stars. The team became the first to qualify for the year's semifinals after they beat Dirty South, led by Brandon Robinson.[5] They used only six players throughout the game,[6] and it was the fifth Super 17 game to be decided by fewer than 10 points.[7] On August 1, 2015, Overseas Elite defeated Team City of Gods to reach the championship game vs Team 23.[2] On August 2, they were crowned the champions after winning, 67–65.[8]
