Origin Records is a jazz record label based in Seattle, Washington. It was founded in 1997 by Seattle drummer John Bishop[1] to help with the design, production, and distribution of records made by his groups and artists he's worked with over several decades. Origin was named Label of the Year in 2009 by JazzWeek.[2]

With the help of John's former student, Matt Jorgensen, the label debuted on the web in 1998 and has made steady growth over the past 11 years.

Origin Records has expanded with OA2 Records (June 2002), and Origin Classical (April 2008). Origin has also produced the annual Ballard Jazz Festival since 2003. The Festival was awarded "Northwest Concert of the Year" by Earshot magazine in 2005 and has featured headliners such as Sonny Fortune, Chano Dominguez, Bobby Broom, Eric Alexander, the Brian Blade Fellowship and Joe Locke.
