Nyeri High School

Introduction

Nyeri high School is an academic Institution reputed as an academic giant not only in Nyeri region but in the country and even internationally. It was rated among the best 100 in Africa in the year 2013 at position 83 among other four schools in Kenya. The school is sponsored by the Archdiocese on Nyeri. Nyeri High School was started as Primary Boy’s Boarding School in 1924 by the Della sale brothers. It has a student population of 1012 and 42 teachers. The current from 1 and 2 are five streams as at 2016.


History

The musumbi present Nyeri High school was founded in 1907 as a primary school together with the neighboring St. Paul Seminary and the Mathari Mission Hospital by the Consolata Missionary Sisters on a parcel of land acquired from a local chief a few years earlier. In the 1930s the school began offering K.A.P.E certificates and by the time Kenya gained its political independence in 1963, had developed into a full high school offering both O-Level and A-Level certificates.
