Norwegian Escape is a cruise ship for Norwegian Cruise Line, in service since October 2015. It was built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany.

Design and description

Norwegian Escape is a Breakaway Plus-class cruise ship, which includes sister ships Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Bliss. The Breakaway Plus class are being built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, for Norwegian Cruise Line. The vessel entered service in October 2015, where it completed a series of short preview sailings from Hamburg, Germany and Southampton, UK. The 164,600 GT ship departed Southampton on 29 October 2015 on her transatlantic crossing to Miami, where the ship will be based year-round offering seven-night Caribbean cruises.

The name of the ship was selected in a contest on USA Today.[5] In 2014, Guy Harvey was chosen to paint the hull art.[6]

The Norwegian Escape is homeported in PortMiami, sailing seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruising to Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Nassau, Bahamas. Norwegian Getaway will move to the Western Caribbean run.[7]

The first section was launched on 5 December 2014.[8] A second section was launched 21 February 2015. Norwegian Escape was floated out of Meyer Werft's building hall on 15 August 2015, with sea trials beginning on 16 September. She was officially delivered to Norwegian Cruise Lines on 22 October.,[9] and took circa 3500 passengers on her inaugural passenger cruise from Southampton to Miami, leaving Southampton (UK) on Thursday 29 October, arriving in Miami on Sunday 8 November

On 9 November 2015, the first godfather to a cruise ship, Pitbull, officially named the ship at a naming ceremony in Miami.

Features

Norwegian Escape features many new venues and facilities not found on her slightly smaller sister ships Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway.

The ship hosts the first Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville at sea, as well as a new restaurant called Bayamo by Jose Garces, which serves seafood dishes with a Latin twist conceived by the famous Iron Chef. Jose Garces also has a Tapas Bar called Pincho by Jose Garces onboard.

Buddy Valastro Operates a Carlo's Bake Shop onboard the Norwegian Escape, offering cakes and other baked goods. The famous Tobacco Road bar in Miami has a location onboard, as well as Michael Mondavi's The Cellars.

In partnership with the Pubbelly Boys, a new dining concept called Food Republic, allows diners to make their food and drinks orders from table-mounted iPads.

The spa onboard Norwegian Escape features an aromatic salt room, a thermal pool, and a snow room, as well as a sauna, steam rooms, and the typical spa treatments offered on ships. The spa on Escape is the largest in the NCL fleet.

Other features include; one of the largest waterparks at sea, a multi-level ropes course, a snow room, 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar as well as range of boutique shops including Lacoste and Carolina Herrera.

Million Dollar Quartet (musical) is performed in the main theatre onboard the ship.

The Norwegian Escape is 1,098 feet in length.[10]
