Northern Lawn Tennis Club

The Northern Lawn Tennis Club or The Northern was established in 1880 in Old Trafford and is a members-owned rackets and fitness club currently located in the Didsbury suburb of Manchester. It is a member of the British Lawn Tennis Association. It has tennis facilities offering 24 tennis courts: three indoor courts, nine grass courts, three clay courts, three hard courts and six junior courts. It also has large squash facilities six courts in total and is an affiliated member of England Squash & Racketball.[1] Over the years it has hosted many international tournaments including the Manchester Open,[2] which started in 1880 as the Northern Lawn Tennis Championships,[3] and the current Manchester Trophy[4] which is part of the ATP Challenger Tour. In addition it has three full-time and five part-time LTA-licensed tennis coaches.[5] The club has a rich tennis history hosting such greats as Ken Rosewall, Maureen Connolly, Pete Sampras and Martina Navratilova to name a few.
