North Bay Shore CDP is north of the hamlet of North Bay Shore. The CDP contains the hamlet of Pine Aire and part of the hamlet of Brentwood.

North Bay Shore is an unincorporated neighborhood on Long Island in the Town of Islip in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The area is a suburb of New York City. The hamlet of North Bay Shore is within the northern part of the CDP of Bay Shore, New York. The census-designated place (CDP) named North Bay Shore is north of, and adjacent to, the hamlet named North Bay Shore. The CDP of North Bay Shore contains the hamlet of Pine Aire and part of the hamlet of Brentwood.[1] The population of the North Bay Shore CDP was 18,944 at the time of the 2010 census.[2]

Geography

The North Bay Shore CDP is located at 40°45′33″N 73°15′38″W / 40.75917°N 73.26056°W / 40.75917; -73.26056 (40.759122, -73.260539).[3] According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.4 km2), all land. For the 2010 census, the US Census Bureau slightly enlarged the CDP to include more of Brentwood, the portion west of Candlewood Road.

Demographics of the CDP

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 14,992 people, 3,794 households, and 3,221 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 5,036.5 per square mile (1,942.4/km²). There were 3,992 housing units at an average density of 1,341.1/sq mi (517.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 48.49% White, 18.82% African American, 0.63% Native American, 2.04% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 23.29% from other races, and 6.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 50.75% of the population.

There were 3,794 households out of which 45.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 18.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.1% were non-families. 10.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.95 and the average family size was 3.98.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 11.0% from 18 to 24, 33.7% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 6.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $55,779, and the median income for a family was $55,819. Males had a median income of $31,124 versus $25,186 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $17,024. About 7.1% of families and 10.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.3% of those under age 18 and 12.2% of those age 65 or over.
