A modern metro rail link joining the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida will be governed by a proposed body called as Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC). The work for the line is under construction. It will direct all the project work to develop this proposed rail link between the two cities. This metro line would connect the New Delhi, the capital of India, to one of the satellite cities near to it.
NMRC projects that this metro link will be ready for operations by 2017, and that it would promote faster commutes between the two cities which is current connected by a road transport system only.
Background
A new metro rail network will shortly be developed between Noida and Greater Noida. Measuring 29.707 km, it will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 5,064 crore. The detailed project report (DPR) has already been prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been formed for the Noida Metro Rail Project. It has been named NoidaMetro Rail Corporation and is chaired by the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the DPR, 22 stations are proposed, of which 13 will be constructed on ground while seven stations will be elevated. Two stations at Knowledge Park-I and sector Delta-1 in Greater Noida are planned for future expansion.Starting from Noida City Centre in Sector 32, the proposed Metro corridor will lead towards Greater Noida via stations in sectors 50, 51, 78, 101, 81, on the Dadri road, 83, 85, 137, 142, 143, 144, 147, 153 & sector 149 in Noida.[2]
It will enter Greater Noida through Knowledge Park-II and traverse Pari Chowk, Sector-Alpha 1 and 2, before terminating at Depot station proposed near recreational green, Knowledge Park-IV in Greater Noida. The entire Metro alignment is proposed to be elevated.A special purpose vehicle (SPV) would be formed for the development, operation and maintenance of the metro rail. The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved the Project and forwarded the DPR to Government of India in October 2013.The Government of India and UP will each bear 20% of the costs and loans from external agencies would be taken to fund the rest 60% of the project. Twenty per cent funding from UP will be shared by Noida and Greater Noida Authorities, based on the length of track that passes through the two areas.
The metro link is expected to be commissioned by 2017.
Route
The proposed 29.07-kilometre (18.06 mi) Noida-Greater Noida metro line which will have 22 stations.[3][4] The line will start from sector 71 hub station and will run through sectors 50, 51, 78, 101, 81, 83, 85, 137, 142, 143, 144, 147, 149 and 153; after this it will enter Greater Noida and will go through Knowledge Park-II, Pari Chowk, Alpha-1 and Alpha-2 before terminating in Knowledge Park-IV. The entire route will be on elevated track.[5] This line will have an interchange station with the Delhi Metro at Sector 52 Noida station.[6]

Infrastructure
Power
All 21 stations, the train depot, and the NMRC offices will be powered by solar energy. The NMRC will install solar panels on the rooftops of all stations, footbridges, its main office building, the depot and parking lot boundary walls to generate an estimated 12 MW of solar power daily. The metro system will also be supplemented with conventional electricity, which will also be used as a back up. Trains will not be powered by solar power, and will instead use conventional power supply.[8]
Project status updates
- Oct 2014: UP Government approves the Noida-Greater Noida metro project.[9]
- Apr 2015: Work on depot to be used for maintenance and servicing of metro coaches started. The 50 acres depot is coming up near Knowledge Park-4 in Greater Noida.
- Sep 2015: Work progress in around Sec-71, Noida.[10][11]
- Nov 2015: 700 piles (pillar foundation) out of total 5000 has been made.[12]
- Feb 2016: NMRC completes first phase of construction in a record time of eight months. At this rate, the corridor is expected to be operational publicly by May 2017.
- March 2016: Noida Metro company holds its Board meeting on March 10 in Lucknow. The company's Chairperson Alok Ranjan who is Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh convened the meeting. Rama Raman, Chairperson of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway authorities who is NMRC's Managing Director and Saumya Srivastava, Executive Director were present.[13]
Monorail
