Nissan Shatai

Nissan Shatai Co., Ltd. (Japanese: 日産車体株式会社 Nissan Shatai Kabushiki-gaisha) (TYO: 7222) is an automaker headquartered in Japan. Its direct history began in 1949. Nissan Motors owns 43% of the company in stock.

It has offices in Japan, with Shōnan factories in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa. It currently produces cars such as the Nissan Wingroad, Nissan Serena, Nissan NV200, Nissan Caravan and Nissan Elgrand. It produces Datsun Trucks and Nissan Safaris for export.

History

It started with the establishment of Japan Aviation Industries Ltd (Nippon Koku Kogyo K.K) 1937. The Japan International Aviation Industries Ltd (Nippon Kokusai Koku Kogyo K.K) was made in 1941 by merger of Japan Aviation Industries and the International Industries Ltd (Kokusai Kogyo K.K). The Japan International Aviation Industries produced it with the development of Kokusai Ki-59 and Kokusai Ki-76 aircraft. It switched to production of cars and trains from 1946.[1]

The Japan International Aviation Industries Ltd was renamed Nikkoku Industries, Ltd. in 1946 and switched business conditions. The Shin-Nikkoku Industries Ltd established in 1949 was renamed Nissan Shatai Kohki Ltd in 1962 and merged with Nikkoku Industries.

A partnership with Nissan Motors began in June 1951, and Nissan Patrol 4W60 production began at the Hiratsuka factory in the September. The Nissan Shatai Kohki was renamed to its current company name in 1971. Nissan Shatai Kohki established the new Kyoto factory (Uji) in 1969, but it was transferred by Nissan Shatai in 2001 to its Auto Works Kyoto Ltd subsidiary. In 2007, its Kanda branch office was established, and its second Kyūshū factory was completed in 1992 and modernized in 2009. This factory operated as the Nissan Shatai Kyushu Co Ltd in the next year. Production of the Nissan NV200, began in December 2010. It is the car chosen as Taxicabs of New York City in May 2011.[2][3]
