History

Nishi-Hiranai Station was opened on October 1, 1939 as a station on the Tōhoku Main Line of the Japanese Government Railways (JGR), the pre-war predecessor to the Japan National Railways (JNR). With the privatization of the JNR on April 1, 1987, it came under the operational control of East Japan Railway Company (JR East).
