Niní was an Argentine children's telenovela broadcast on Telefe from 2009 onwards, starring Florencia Bertotti and Federico Amador, written by Gabriela Fiore and Jorge Chernov. It was produced by Bertotti and her former husband, TV host Guido Kaczka, in conjunction with Endemol. It also starred Maida Andrenacci and Paula Morales as the main antagonist. At its debut the show achieved 19.1 rating points, according to the Argentinian TV popularity measuring system (IBOPE), 13 points ahead of the competition at the time.[1][2] Niní received consistently high ratings throughout its run, making it one of Telefe's most popular shows in the afternoon time slot.[3] However, after the first two weeks, the show started to lose some of its momentum and it ended up with a 10 point average[4]

In 2012 it was shown again on the cable channel Magazine, and for the first time in Mexico on the Tiin channel.[5]

Plot

Niní tells the story of Nina Gomez, am innocent girl somewhat prone to distraction. She is spontaneous and with a big heart, and has been living alone with her grandfather, a gardener at the embassy in which they live. Niní's life changes with the arrival of the new ambassador, Thomas Parker (Federico Amador), an aloof young divorcée. Parker arrives at the house accompanied by his ambitious secretary Celina (Paula Morales) and his four adopted children, who were born in different countries.[1]

Niní quickly becomes fond of the children, and falls in love with Thomas, but she must overcome several obstacles to stay with them, eventually resorting to disguising as a man and becoming "Nicolás", the new embassy chauffeur.

Theater

Niní was adapted to theater in a play called Nini, The Search. All the characters were featured on stage singing and dancing the songs from the original show. The play made its debut on January 24, 2010, in Mar del Plata. The second showing took place on February 27, 2010 in the Orfeo Superdome in Córdoba. More than 5,500 people attended the show. The run ended its season at the Gran Rex theater in Buenos Aires, with over 35,000 people in attendance.[9]

The show was also presented for the first time in Florence, Italy in November 2010.

Legal dispute

In 2010, producer Gustavo Yankelevich filed a plagiarism lawsuit on behalf of RGB Entertainment and Cris Morena Group, alleging that Niní was a copy of the telenovela Floricienta, which Bertotti starred in during the 2004-2005 TV season. The Argentinian courts ruled in favor of the complainants, and Niní was pulled off the air on April 16, 2010, despite earlier reports of an agreement between the two parties.[10] The double-episode ending drew record ratings.[11][12]
