Nigel Clifford

Nigel Clifford is the CEO of Ordnance Survey, a British government-owned mapping business, since 6 March 2015.[1]

Before this he was CEO of Procserve – the cloud based e-commerce network from February 2012[2] to March 2015 and previously led Micro Focus International, a FTSE 250 provider of software development and testing tools. From 2005, he led Symbian,[3] (a joint venture of handset vendors) to become the world's leading smartphone operating system, eventually selling and integrating the company into Nokia in 2008.[4] This was before smartphones had expanded into wider deployment and use, and Nokia was overtaken by Apple and Google Android. Before Symbian he grew and then sold Tertio Telecoms Ltd, a privately owned global telecoms software company, to Evolving Systems in 2004.[5]

He was Chief Executive of an NHS teaching hospital group - Glasgow Royal Infirmary (1992-8).[6]

He has also worked for British Telecom (1981–92) and Cable & Wireless (1998-2000), in procurement, product management, strategy and large scale operational roles.

From 2009 he was a non-executive director of Anite,[7] until it was acquired and in January 2015 he became a non-executive director of Alliance Pharma.[8]

He has a degree from Cambridge University and MBA from Strathclyde University.[9]

He has three children, and his personal interests include fell-walking, running and kayaking.[10]
