Nick Hardwick (chairman)

Nick Hardwick (born 19 July 1957)[1] was Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons. He was appointed to the role in July 2010,[2] replacing Anne Owers.

Prior to this he was the Chair of the Independent Police Complaints Commission, a British organisation which claims to make sure that complaints against the police are dealt with effectively.[3] He was appointed in December 2002.

From June 1995 to January 2003 he was Chief Executive of the Refugee Council.[4] From 1986 to 1995 he was Chief Executive of the charity Centrepoint.[5] Born in Surrey, he currently lives in south London. He has a wife and two children. In 1979 he graduated from the University of Hull with a third class honours degree in English. [6]

He was educated at Epsom College and the University of Hull (BA English Literature, 1979).[7]
