The New Hampshire Wildcats football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the University of New Hampshire located in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Colonial Athletic Association. New Hampshire's first football team was fielded in 1893. The team plays its home games at the 11,000 seat Wildcat Stadium in Durham, New Hampshire. The Wildcats are coached by Sean McDonnell.

Conference affiliations

Brice- Cowell Musket Game

An annual rivalry game played between the University of New Hampshire Wildcats and then University of Maine Bears. The winner of this game gets the right to hang the musket up in their locker room for the year following this game. The wildcats and the Bears have met 106 times on the football field, with New Hampshire currently sitting at 54-44-8 edge in the all-time series. A game between two rival teams creates a lot of emotion and intensity from both sides, and it is always a big deal to win this particular game.

Librarian Donation

A longtime UNH librarian, Robert Morin, left 4 million dollars to the University of New Hampshire, and 1 million dollars of that money was spent on a new video scoreboard for the football stadium. Morin started watching and becoming particularly interested in football towards the end of his life. University officials explained that there was no direct instruction on how to spend this money, except for $100,000 for the library. The decision to spend so much of this generous donation on a scoreboard is a heated and very controversial topic to many people, where some people agree and others strongly agree.
