Nevinnomyssk (Russian: Невинномы́сск) is a city in Stavropol Krai, Russia, located on both banks of the Kuban River at its confluence with the Bolshoy Zelenchuk River, 54 kilometers (34 mi) south of Stavropol. Population: 118,360(2010 Census);[4] 132,141 (2002 Census);[8] 121,355(1989 Census);[9] 92,000 (1973); 40,000 (1959).

History

Nevinnomyssk was founded in 1825 as a stanitsa near a small fort. It was granted town status in 1939.

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, it is incorporated as the city of krai significance of Nevinnomyssk—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[1] As a municipal division, the city of krai significance of Nevinnomyssk is incorporated as Nevinnomyssk Urban Okrug.[2]

Economy

The Nevinnomyssk Canal starts in Nevinnomyssk. The Nevinnomysk Nitrogen plant is a major fertilizer manufacturer and the city's main employer. There are also several other chemical plants in the town.
