Nathan Peter Thomas Phillips (born 16 January 1980) is an Australian actor who is currently based in Los Angeles. He is perhaps best known for his role as backpacker Ben Mitchell in Wolf Creek, for his American film debut, Snakes on a Plane, opposite Samuel L. Jackson, in 2006[1] and for the recent Chernobyl Diaries (2012) and These Final Hours (2014).

Life and career

Nathan Phillips was born in Melbourne, Victoria and played for the local football team Rupertswood.

His professional acting career began in 1999, with a role on the popular Australian soap opera Neighbours. His television career was later followed by roles in Child Star: The Shirley Temple Story, Blue Heelers, Something in the Air and The Saddle Club.

In 2002, he made his feature film debut with a role in Warriors of Virtue: The Return to Tao (Kevin Smith and Shedrack Anderson III, Nina Liu. His next role, the lead in Australian Rules, earned him a nomination for the Film Critics Circle of Australia's Best Actor award, alongside David Gulpilil, Guy Pearce and Vince Colosimo.

Phillips has since enjoyed a thriving film career, starring in movies such as Take Away (with Rose Byrne), Chernobyl Diaries, One Perfect Day (Abby Cornish) and Under the Radar. In 2005, hit horror film Wolf Creek introduced him to an international audience, helping to launch his US career with roles in Snakes on a Plane (Samuel L. Jackson), Redline and Surfer Dude (Matthew Mcconaughey).

Phillips, always staying close to his Australian roots, continued to work on the small-budget films back home. West, in Sydney with Khan Chittenden, Gillian Alexy, Michael Dorman and Yael Stone, Balibo (Oscar Issacs, Anthony LaPaglia, Tom Wright, Damon Gameau, Summer Coda, with Alex Dimitradis, Rachael Taylor, Angus Sampson, Pacharo Mzembi and Cassandra Magrath. Phillips also portrayed Tom Wills, Australia's first significant cricketer and father of Australian rules football, in a docudrama about the tragic sportsman's life. It was first screened in 2014 and had its television debut in 2016.[2]

Nathan Philips made his U.S. Network Television debut in 2014 on FX’s "The Bridge". Playing the role of Jack Dobbs, Philips was Diane Kruger’s love interest throughout Season 02. In 2015 he featured as the lead role in "Hunters" on "Sci-Fi".
