Nara Narayan Mela

Nara narayan Mela [1] is also known as Pakhanjore Mela is famous mela in Paralkot(Modern Pakhanjore) at kanker district in chhattisgarh.Nara Narayan Fair starts on Makar Sankranti festival every year and remain for 6–7 days. Nearly 4 -5 million people gather here, not only from India but pilgrims from abroad too visit this fair. The business estimated to be worth millions.The followers of Swami Satyananda Paramahansa who believed him to be incarnation of god started this event before 51 years . Earlier it was celebrated only for one day on Makar Sankranti festival.

The Nara Narayan Mela is so popular that large number of local businessmen from every corner of the country arrive here.It is not only well known for faith of devotees but also for good business record.

Sreemat Swami Satyananda Paramhansadeb is the founder of Nara Narayan Sevasram and Satyananda Sevashram Sangha at Pakhanjore.[2]

Early life of Swami Satyananda

Swami satyanand was born in Kalia village of Faridpur District in Bangladesh( it was known as Bengal before partition of India). He had faith in god since childhood. He abandoned his family during his early youth and adoptedin the path of righteousness. Due to his propensity towards faith and his efficient preaching,a large number of students began to follow him. Swamiji's followers were from many parts of the country and they started worshipping him as a messenger of god.

Swami Satyananda sacrificed his home to build his first Ashram in Mathanbadhi at Bangladesh. While living with his disciple he gave services to people for many years.During Partition of Bengal (1905) Swami Satyananda along with his disciple came to India as refugees and settled at paralkot(modern Pakhanjore).At NARA NARAYAN SEVASRAM[3] in Pakhanjore he continue to serve people and set forward the regions most famous fair of today.

In his whole life Swami Satyananda he sacrificed his physical life and with his selfless spirit gave service to people and he successfully delivered the service through Nara Narayan sevagram . The local people believed him to be incarnation of God. In 1974 Swamiji abandoned the land and took mausoleum. Today his mausoleum is the region's most magnificent temple. His divine body is placed in a special room below his statue .

First private higher secondary school

After the Partition of Bengal (1905) the people who came here as refugees faced the biggest problem of the area and that was their children's education.Therefore, with the support of his disciples and Nara Nararyan sevagram Swami Satyananda established the first private higher secondary school for education of children of all religions and Vigor region.Registered in 1979, the school is now known as Satyananda higher secondary school.[4] The pass-out kids are now at highest position .
