The names and titles of Muhammad,[1] names and attributes of Muhammad,[2] 99 Names of Muhammad (Arabic: اسماء النبي (ʾAsmāʾ Al-Nâbî) are the names of the Islamic prophet Muhammad used by Muslims, which are found mainly in the Qur’an and hadith literature.

Names and honorifics

Muhammad is often referenced with these titles of praise or epithet:

He is also known by these names:

In Turkey, he is often called Hazrat (Saint) Muhammed, or "Peygamber Efendimiz".[38]

When spoken or written in English, Muhammad's name is conventionally followed by the honorific phrase Blessings of God be upon Him and Peace (often abbreviated "PBUH" or simply "p"). The phrase renders Arabic صلى الله عليه وسلم, which is also found transcribed acronymically as "SAWS", however Islamic Scholars repeatedly emphasize the need to say and write the blessing in full, wherever it is written, either as Arabic or one's own language, and the use of such acronyms is considered inappropriate. The practice of sending blessings and salutations upon the Prophet, صلى الله عليه وسلم, is encouraged by a well-known verse of the Holy Quran. [39]
